Ana Infanzón   Marín

I would describe myself as a “people watcher”, and as an artist I would describe myself the same way. I really enjoy watching people — like really like watching people, to the point I’m told I have a staring problem. Seeing what I can gather about these people without ever uttering a word to them. I’ve been actively making art for over 10 years and my work has mainly centered itself around people and the human experience as a whole. In a literal way my work is people, whether it be portraiture, figures, or character design, it all in the end is simply people.

The Story so far...

Ana Infanzón Marín is a current BFA program junior at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. His focus studies are illustration for narrative works, such as animation and comics, as well as multi-media art, delving into video and sculptural paintings. His illustrative work emphasizes the 'little details', the humanity and emotions of the stories and characters. They prioritize having designs be clear and well-rounded, making them fit in with the world around them; and creates them without sacrificing the personality and integrity of a character. Creating an intimate and cohesive world for their audience to get immersed in, is another one of his priorities in this section of Ana's work.

With his multimedia practice he focuses on his personal experience of being a trans Mexican youth living in the US and all the 'baggage' that comes with that kind of lived experience. Working a lot with themes of memory because he finds it fascinating how we form memories, what memories get blurred or get warped, and how we choose to relay our memories to other people. Politics is also an inevitable part of their art simply because of the nature of being a POC living in the US, dealing with racism, ostracization, and issues within the Latine community. Relying heavily on motifs that have significance within that community and work with themes that I feel is something that group of people can relate to; also drawing heavily from the ideas of modern art, a movement that rejects traditional artistic aesthetics and embraced 'rule breaking' or experimentation, and this is something that I feel like I do in my pieces.
